Beacon and the Surrounding Area
Beacon, New York is the home of
Dia:Beacon, Riggio Galleries, a museum that houses a renowned permanent collection
of major works of art from the 1960s to the present, in a 300,000-square-foot
historic printing factory. Beacon is host to a slew of other new independent galleries,
art cafes, and design stores, including
OPEN SPACE on Main Street.
Check out the massive four-story factory building
on the east end of Main Street with artwork in each of 24 windows. The unique art site helped
spur revitalization in the area, including an events center, multiple shops, cafes and art galleries.
The area around Beacon is bursting with opportunities to get out into nature. Visit
Bannerman Castle, 30 minutes
away by ferry, or rent a kayak! Formerly known as Pollepel, Bannerman Island
is the site of a faux Scottish castle, now in ruins, begun in 1901 by a local businessman.
